Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Southeast Asia (RLS SEA), together with the Institute of Legislative Studies (ILS), organized two (2) workshops on “Improving the Bill on Associations” in Quang Ninh (July 12th – 13th, 2016) and Vung Tau (in October 6th – 7th, 2016). Senior attendants were Chairman of the Committee on Economic Affairs of the National Assembly, Vice Chairman of the Committee on Law of the National Assembly, Vice Minister of Home Affairs, Mr Tran Anh Tuan (title picture, third from left), Director General of the NGO Department of Home Affairs, Mr. Don Tuan Phong, Vice President cum Secretary General of the Vietnam of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh, the Secretary of Ba Ria – Vung Tau Party Committee, Head of People’s Council of Ba Ria – Vung Tau. Ms. Liliane Danso-Dahmen, the Director of RLS SEA (title picture, first from right), co-chaired the workshops with Dr. Nguyen Dinh Quyen, President of ILS. Special experts also joined the discussions and shared their international experience in the right to associations, including Mr. Peeter Raane, Member of the Board of Director, RLS Berlin (title picture, second from left) and Mr. Marko Lurkovic – Director of the INGO-VUFO Resource Center.
The workshops created a forum for participants to exchange their knowledge, practices and perspectives on related issues such as the administrative management, establishment, operation and dismissal of associations/ CSOs. Effective mechanism to promote the right to freedom of association as well as national security, social orders and safety protection are among the main concerns of all participants.
