On Saturday, 10 December 2011, a seminar about “Solar Power – Our future Choice” was held. This event was co-organized by the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung (RLS), the Green Generation Network, and Live&Learn Vietnam. This was an opportunity for fifty young students, NGO workers, researchers, and interested journalists to join in an open dialogue about solar power and renewable energies.
The three guest speakers invited were Prof. Dang Dinh Thong, Former Director of the Renewable Energy Research Centre at Hanoi the University of Technology; Mr. Do Duc Tuong, Team Leader of the DEVI Renewable Energies Group and Mr. Hoang Duc Minh – Director of the Raising Awareness on Environment and Climate Change Program. Their combined knowledge and expertise on renewable energies and environmental issues contributed greatly to the success of the event.
The seminar focused on four main areas relating to solar energy: Firstly, basic principles of solar power and its applications; secondly, the development of solar power in Vietnam; thirdly, opportunities and challenges of solar energies, current status of solar power development in the world; and finally, youth and the climate movement towards clean energies. An indispensable part of the seminar was the exchange session between guest speakers and audience.
The seminar received positive feedback from the participants, who will support the continuation of the activities in 2012, to promote climate change and sustainable development education among young people.
